Fodder Development
Fodder and Feeds are the most important factor for sustainable livestock and poultry farming. Profitability of the farm is depends on quality of fodder and feeds. Both the State government and Govt. of India has taken care of Fodder and feeds development through various programme/schemes which are being converged for the ultimate benefit of the farmers.
Despite the superior breed of livestock that are available with the farmer, the performance is poor and is unable to produce optimal result. This is due to non availability of quality fodder with the farmers. Hence, due importance to grow fodder crops, grasses and fodder trees both hybrid and indigenous which are having high nutritive contents and suitable to our agro-climatic condition are being advocated by the department through various departmental schemes specially under NLM like distribution of hybrid fodder seeds like, Maize (A T), Oat-Kent,Sorghum (Chari-1) ,Cowpea (Bundel-1), Ricebean (Bidhan-1)etc and provide silo pit to both the dairy and piggery farmers for quality/quantity production and preservation of surplus fodder.
